Applications of Bacteriophage in medicine
Phage is used to determine phage-type in bacteria. Each bacterial species can include many different types of phages due to the nature of the bacterial receptor for different phages
Applications in molecular biology research
Phages are used as gene carriers in molecular biology research, many of which are used to study bacterial genetics. Transformation is the phage-mediated process of gene transfer in bacteria. Some phage strains, such as phage P22, can transport any bacterial gene, which is generalized transformation. In specific transformation, some specific phages, such as phage l, transport only certain genes from the donor to the recipient.
Applications in bacteriological diagnosis and epidemiology
Phage is used to determine phage-type in bacteria. Each bacterial species can include many different types of phages due to the nature of the receptors in bacteria for different phages. Several sets of phages were selected. In each phage set, each phage lysates only one type of phage of a bacterial species. Phage typing is valuable for bacteriological diagnosis and especially for epidemiology.
The b-moderate phage can integrate into the diphtheria bacterial chromosome; Only in the solubilizing state diphtheria bacteria can form toxins.
Other Apps
Despite its ability to infect bacteria, phages are not used to treat infections because clinical trials have been inconclusive.
