Enzyme immunoreactivity in microbiological diagnosis
Antigen or enzyme-conjugated antibody retains immunological activity. The enzyme used may be alkaline phosphatase or peroxidase. The test gives objective results and is very sensitive
Principle:
This technique uses antibodies or antigens immobilized onto a polystyrene sheet. It is then used to capture the antigen or reciprocal antibody in the test solution and the complex is detected by the antibody-binding enzyme or the antigen acting on a specific substrate. The substrate of the hydrolytic enzyme is measured spectrophotometrically, proportional to the concentration of the unknown antibody or antigen in the test solution.
Antigen or enzyme-conjugated antibody retains immunological activity. The enzyme used may be alkaline phosphatase or peroxidase. The test gives objective results and is very sensitive. Enzyme-linked immunoassay is applied to diagnose bacteria such as syphilis, Brucella, Salmonella, cholera. And viruses such as hepatitis virus, measles virus, rotavirus...
