Altered level of consciousness: Glasgow coma scale
As a summary of the conscious state, the GCS score should be used (Tables 5.2 and 5.3). It is also a useful tool for monitoring changes. The full score is calculated from the sum of E + V + M. A score of 8 is used as a criterion for endotracheal intubation in the head-injured.
