Practice diagnosis and treatment of proteinuria during pregnancy

Proteinuria in pregnancy is defined as> 300mg / L. Refer to specialist if a diagnosis is confirmed.

The presence of a small amount of protein in the urine is perfectly normal (trace proteinuria). When diagnosing proteinuria, blood pressure should be checked to rule out the possibility of foetal toxicity, pre-eclampsia. Mid-stream urine test (MSU) to rule out urinary tract infection.
