Spoon-shaped concave nail - signs of symptoms and causes
Spoon-shaped concave nails are associated with soft bed and nail substrate, but this development is not clearly explained. There is little evidence that a spoon-shaped concave nail is a marker in iron-deficiency anaemia.
Description
This is the loss of longitudinal and lateral tension of the finger, accompanied by thinning of the fingernail in the distal part. Or to put it simply - spoon-shaped nails.
Causes
Common
Normal physiological change.
Soft nails due to occupational influences.
Less common
Iron deficiency anaemia.
Iron accumulation disease - rare.
Raynaud's Syndrome.
